FormForge
Killed: Aug 24, 2026
Cause of Death
Commodity Economics and Support Burden
Post-Mortem
FormForge reached a substantial pre-deployment implementation and research state, but the standalone business thesis did not survive portfolio review. Generic form builders compete against mature incumbents and capable free tiers, while AI-assisted generation is increasingly table stakes. Charging enough to make the product worthwhile would require deeper integrations, workflow specialization, security, compliance, deliverability, billing operations, and ongoing customer support. The likely returns were too slim for that burden, so the product was killed before deployment. The repository and research remain useful evidence, but no launch or further commercial investment is planned.
Lessons Learned
A technically substantial product is not automatically an economically attractive business. Validate differentiation, willingness to pay, and the support surface before finishing deployment infrastructure in a crowded category with strong free substitutes.
What I'd Do Differently
Start with a narrow, urgent workflow and named buyers before building broad form-platform infrastructure. Do not revive FormForge without direct evidence that a specialized use case can support pricing high enough to pay for its compliance, integration, and support obligations.
